Why is parenthood something people fear?

My fiancé and I really want to have a family. We are 26 and 29 and plan to get married at 28 and 31 ish. We want to start trying right after the wedding. But I’ve heard in multiple conversations (just today actually) from women around me saying that they would never have kids, that it sounds so scary not to just birth the child but to have to be a parent. Is parenthood really that awful? I always saw it as a beautiful and natural part of life.. why is it seen as such a negative thing?? My fiance and I right now are not quite where we want to be financially yet (doing better than average for our age but still renting and driving old cars) but we have plans for our careers that will definitely bring us up to a solid income for raising a family, he works at a hospital and is planning on going to nursing school through a paid program there for his RN. I’m a hairstylist on year 4 and slowly building up clientele. Over just the past year I’ve almost doubled my income. Is it just the people who don’t want to grow in life or take responsibility or is having a family just genuinely not something that is sustainable in our society anymore?
