Am I the asshole for telling a woman she looked too fat to be homeless?
This happened a few years back when I was on holiday, but I was talking about it the other day and it really split my friend group.
So I was relaxing in a park in Istanbul when this absolutely huge woman starts waddling over to me.
I'm not the best at socialising so I stared at my phone in the hopes she would get the hint and go bother someone else, but instead she sits next to me and starts whining.
Allegedly she hadn't she hadn't been fed for days and had nowhere to go. She even started trying to search through my backpack for food!
I will admit I wasn't the most tactful and pointed out that most people who are starving to death don't have double chins and struggle to fit on a park bench.
This was a mistake, as she started screaming and refused to stop until I got her lunch.
To be fair once she'd had some food she turned out to be quite a charming young lady, and we had a wonderful afternoon just hanging out and chatting.
But the crazy thing is when I went to the park again that evening, she started the exact same routine insisting that she was on the precipice of life, and would die if she didn't get food in the next ten minutes.
I ended up getting her more food, but I still feel like I was getting conned.
Was I really wrong to point out that she was a chunkster?
