Console/Controllers aiming through smokes?

I can't tell if it's controllers or cheaters. I've been shot through walls of smoke grenades repeatedly since I turned cross-play back on to lower queue times. Is this a thing?

For the record, this isn't spray and pray, it's dead accurate even inside 3 or 4 smoke grenades spread in an area.
