Can someone explain why some conservatives seem to put so much weight on "the economy" and "my taxes"?
Look, I get if a conservative is full on MAGA hype train, but I know a bunch of non MAGA Trump voters who basically hate the man but like the stock standard republican tax cuts, judges etc. who voted for the man in 2016. In 2020 many of those people in my social circle end up saying something like "I know Trump has been an absolute disaster on \[insert list of issues here\], but...I don't know, I mean under Biden my taxes will go up, my healthcare will be fucked up etc.". What I find odd is that list of issues includes behaving like an autocrat (even if he sucks at actually executing on it), calling into question the basic democratic principle of voting and an election, COVID deaths and his terrible management of it etc. These are all things THEY say are terrible about him, and are reasons to consider getting rid of him. What I don't get is how that list of issues can possibly be on the same plane of importance as a tax hike, or some temporary policy change. Especially because you can get that reversed 2 years later, or have it never happen by just electing a republican legislature. It just boggles my mind.
