I've seen this article on birth trauma/PTSD floating around my facebook wall. Wanted to pass it along :)

Hey ladies- Like I said, I've seen this around and wanted to pass it along. I have also seen a similar "Birth Rape" article as well which makes many of the same points.
I can definitely see how this could be a "thing" and even remember one birth story on BabyBumps where a mama who had been sexually assaulted had a cervical check performed against her will, causing what sounded like serious emotional trauma during an already stressful delivery.
I'm not trying to say that certain things are not necessary to prevent harm to the mother or child but I do think this happens and can cause PTSD. I can only imagine how belittling it would be to be told that your feelings don't matter and that you should just shut up and "be grateful".
IMO having knowledge and an advocate in the delivery room is the best preparation. Being able to make an informed decision and having someone there who will stick up for you can really make the difference.
"Remember that at the root of trauma is fear. The fear you have during childbirth, strapped to various machines, unaware of what might happen next, at a complete loss of control, is that you or your baby might not live."
I would love to hear your opinion on this!!
