Recently purchased a PC from Best Buy, onboard wifi reception is lacking. Would the Nighthawk AC1900 adapter help?
I recently purchased a CyberPowerPC desktop (SKU: 6400451) from Best Buy. I've had it since Friday, and have come to the conclusion that the motherboard's WiFi adapter does not have the greatest reception. My old PC was running with a TP-Link TL-WN8200ND adapter that was rife with compatibility issues with Windows 10, but its signal gain was (considering I'm entirely across the house) excellent and allowed me to play MMOs and team-based shooters with little issue... once I got Windows 10 to recognize that it even existed. Due to said compatibility issues, I can't use that adapter with this PC. But I currently can't even watch a stream higher than 180p resolution without buffering, when I was able to watch at 1080p before.
Distance from the router is, well, across a small house and downstairs. Good range is paramount.
This brings us to my question. What is the prevailing opinion of the Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 (aka Nighthawk 7000, SKU: 6059000) adapter, particularly its range? Is it likely that I would see an appreciable difference in signal strength (or at least stability) compared to mystery onboard WiFi?
(Disclaimers: I don't own the router, so I can't move it. The PC is in my room, and I can't move it out of there. I need to make the best of a less-than-ideal situation.)
