"Can't explain this other than just bad luck"

Quote from Randy Pederson when Svensson left the stone 9 in frame 9 last night.

What really annoys me here is that, it can be explained. Jesper was on knife's edge of classic urethane carry the whole game. He almost left a 7-10. The replay they showed of frame 8, the ball only just barely had enough drive to nick the 5 pin.

All the symptoms of a ball burning up too much energy before it got to the pocket was evident almost the entire time.

And I guess I don't understand why Randy doesn't explain some of that -- he's experienced enough that he's got to know. He's talked about how urethane can lead to light hits before.

I just really think it is a disservice to call it luck. When it's physics. The ball had crap momentum and energy. Just getting a ball to the pocket isn't enough -- it has to get to the pocket AND have good momentum and energy to give maximal strike chances.

And I further am going to say that I am not going to say that urethane maybe still wasn't the right ball for Jesper there. Maybe controlling the pocket still is the strategy that Jesper thinks gives him the best chances to win. He likely threw something reactive in warmups and decided it was way too jumpy. But discussion of such choices would add to the intrigue I think.

Maybe I am overestimating the TV audience and the announcers are under orders not to talk too much about 'technical boring shit' or something. I guess I could buy that. Just feels like a disservice to both the audience in that they are representing something as purely bad luck when it was the consequence of a choice that was made as well as a disservice to the bowlers in the audience by not explaining something that they could indeed likely find useful to watch for in their league week to week, too.

Likely this is just old man yelling at a cloud here, but I guess I just don't grasp the commentary at all there.
