HAPPY 50th BIRTHDAY CITY OF BRAMPTON!

It was on this date 50 years ago in 1974 that the City of Brampton was formed, with a population of just 91,842 people. As of last year, the estimated population was about 749,903 people.

It is also the 50th birthday of Brampton Fire Department, Peel Police, City of Mississauga, Town of Caledon, Peel Region, Halton Region and Halton Hills and likely other places and organizations I’ve forgotten.

Before amalgamation, both (then Town) Brampton and Bramalea were supposed to have a hospital by 1975. But that fell through the cracks, and here we are 49 years later, STILL waiting for a second hospital. Brampton Civic was built on the site for Bramalea’s hospital.
