Wooden Kitchen Cupboards

I tried cleaning them with soapy water, and it seemed to remove some of the stain? varnish? on the draws. I think it's the third picture.

How would you recommend cleaning these wooden draws and cupboards?

Do they need a new layer of stain? varnish? Something?
