Christians, do you derive your morality from the bible?

It is often argued that without God, atheists cannot have an acceptable morality. Allow me to compare biblical teachings to what I think are generally accepted secular humanist principles, informed in part by the enlightenment.

>**Leviticus 20:13** If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

No one should ever be put to death for consensual sex between adults.

> **Exodus 21:7** And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do.

The edicts regarding slavery in the bible are too numerous to all mention. Slavery contravenes a person's fundamental human rights according to humanism and the Geneva convention.

> **Numbers 31:17-18** Kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves."

Humanists would argue that infanticide and rape should never be allowed in peace time or during war.

> **Leviticus 15:29-30** And on the eighth day she shall take unto her two turtles, or two young pigeons, and bring them unto the priest, to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. And the priest shall offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering; and the priest shall make an atonement for her before the LORD for the issue of her uncleanness.

Menstruation is a natural cycle of the human female. There can be no judgement of morality regarding it's occurrence, or of the female body in general simply for being female.

> **Leviticus 20:27** A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.

> **Exodus 22:18** Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.

As amusing as wicca may be, no one deserves death for congregating in woods at night round a bowl of frog's leg soup.

> **2 Kings 2:23** And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

Feeding children to bears is never acceptable, even if they do accuse a prophet of the lord of wearing a Toupée.

> **1 Samuel 15:2-3** Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt. Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

Punishment against a person should not extend to their family or descendents, or genocide if you will.

I could continue, but i fear I will be in Tl:Dr territory.

While you may argue that the morality of the biblical God is better than humainst principles, I ask you upon which is modern Western culture based. I argue that the culture and legal systems which we have developed are not based biblically or on Christianity.
