Part 1 of my Rewrite of Desecendants (History & Worldbuilding)
Hey guys, a bit new here on the r/Descendants subreddit, but with all the world-rebuilding I've done with the Ever After High & Monster High Universes, I thought I'd take a gander with the Descendants Universe & make this. Enjoy!
**History/Background:** The two continents, Auradon (Heroes' Kingdoms) & Umbransula (Isle of Villains) were founded sometime after the Twisted Wars, a war sparked by Chernabog’s attempts to twist time & the cosmos itself to have the villains win & the heroes lose. A final battle between good & evil took place with one side being led by Chernabog, The Black God of All Evil, & the other by his brother, Belobog, White God of All Good. The battle ended with Belobog trapping Chernobog deep within the heart of Bald Mountain for an eternity. With Chernabog defeated, the villains surrendered & struck a truce with the heroes to live their separate but mostly peaceful lives.
**Worldbuilding:**
**Auradon:**
* Auradon, or the U.K.A (United Kingdoms of Auradon), is a magical country best described as a hodge-podge of Epcot’s World Showcase Pavilions & regions of the Land of Oz from “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” by L. Frank Baum with an Urban Fantasy twist. The land is split up by the same kingdoms from each Disney film. Kingdoms also act a lot like cities of the modern era depending on the location:
**Northern (European):**
* **Brittania** is Auradon’s version of England ruled by King Arthur & his wife Guinevere, whom some may recall as Hazel the Squirrel, & magically protected by Merlin. * **Dunbroch** is Auradon’s version of Scotland, ruled solely by Queen Merida. * **Pryddin** is Auradon’s version of Wales ruled by Queen Eliowny & her husband, Knight-King Taran. * **Arendelle** is Auradon’s version of Scandinavia ruled by Queen Anna & her husband, King Kristoff with the spiritual protection of the fifth spirit, Elsa. * **Hellas** is Auradon’s version of Greece. Though it has no official ruler, it is protected by the demigod Hercules. * **Messina** is Auradon’s version of Italy ruled by Queen Ariel & King Eric. Not too far below the Messinian Sea hides **Atlantica**, an underwater kingdom ruled by one of Queen Ariel's sisters, Attina. * **Corona** is Auradon’s version of Spain ruled by Queen Rapunzel, & her husband, King Eugene Fitzherbert. * Auradon’s version of France is split into three kingdoms: * **The Kingdom of Charbonneau**, ruled by Queen Ella & King Charlemagne, or “Prince Charming” as he was previously known as. The kingdom is also magically protected by Madame Marraine, Ella’s Fairy Godmother. * **The Kingdom of Desrosiers**, ruled by Queen Aurora & King Philip & magically protected by Aurora’s Fairy Godmothers: Flora, Fauna, & Merryweather. * & lastly, **The Kingdom of Beaumont**, ruled by King Adam & Queen Belle & magically protected by Ambrosia, Daughter of Merlin & Mother of Belle, known previously as the Enchantress. * **Mirkwuld** is Auradon’s version of Germany ruled by Queen Snow White & King Florian. * **Rosas** is Auradon’s version of Portugal ruled by Queen Aisha & King Rigel. It’s also the place where Headmaster Yensid studied magic.
**Southern (Africa + Oceania):**
* **Agrabah** is Auradon’s version of the Middle East & North Africa ruled by Sultana Jasmine & Sultan Aladdin & magically protected by Genie. * **The Pridelands**, or **Kiburi** as it’s also called, is Auradon's version of Eastern Africa ruled by the Leathrope King Simba & the Leathrope Queen Nala. * **The Deep Jungles**, or **Zamba**, as it’s called, is Auradon's version of Western Africa ruled solely by the Simithrope-raised King Tarzan. * **Montunui** is Auradon’s version of Polynesia ruled solely by Chiefess Moana with the occasional, godly help of Maui.
**Eastern (Asia):**
* **Longjudian**, or “**The Dragon’s Stronghold**”, is Auradon’s version of China ruled by Empresses Mei, Ting-Ting, & Su. * **Maldonia** is Auradon’s version of India with one side being ruled by King Naveen & Queen Tiana & the other being ruled by the Lycanthrope Marajah Akela. * **Kumandra** is Auradon’s version of Southeast Asia with the **Traitim Kingdom** being Kumandra’s version of Vietnam, the **Taring** **Kingdom** being Kumandra’s version of Indonesia, Malaysia, & Brunei, the **Krawwroe** **Kingdom** being Kumandra’s version of Myanmar, the **Grong-Lep Kingdom** being Kumandra’s version of Thailand, & the **Buntot Kingdom** being Kumandra’s version of the Philippines. Though each kingdom has a ruler, the kingdom is solely ruled by Queen’s Raya & Namaari & magically protected by Sisu & her draconic siblings: Pengu, Jagan, Pranee, & Amba.
**Western (The America’s):**
* **Denali** is Auradon’s version of Alaska & Canada ruled by Ursathrope Chief & Chiefess Kenai & Nita. * **Andalusia** is Auradon’s version of New York City ruled by King Edward & Queen Nancy. * **Lusiana** is Auradon’s version of Louisiana ruled by Queen Charlotte & King Travis & magically protected by Mama Odie. * **Avalor** is Auradon’s version of Mexico ruled by Queen Elena & magically protected by Mateo. * **Milagro** is Auradon's version of Central America, specifically Colombia. Though it is not ruled nor magically protected by anyone, it's famous for being the home of the Madrigal Family. * **The Kuzconian Empire** is Auradon’s version of South America ruled solely by Emperor Kuzco.
**Other Realms:**
* **Sleepy Hollows** is a dark, foreboding forest haunted by the infamous Headless Horseman located in a disclosed location within Andalusia. * Somewhere in Carroll-Dodgson Park of Lundenwic, Brittania lies a rabbit hole leading to a whimsical, nonsensical realm known as **Wonderland**. While the realm was once ruled by the tyrannical Queen of Hearts, because of the efforts of Wonderland's ambassador, Alice Kingsleigh-Robinson, the realm is now ruled by the just Queen of Clubs. * Beyond the Second Star To The Right that overlooks all of Auradon lies a timeless realm known as **Neverland** “ruled” by Peter Pan & magically protected by Tinkerbell of Pixie Hollows. * In the **100th Acre of Acrewood Boulevard** of Lundenwic, Brittania, there lives a magical forest where sentient versions of the toys lives, first discovered by Christopher Robinson. * No one's quite certain why this phenomenon happens, but when one's holiday spirit is at its peak, they may find themselves in a strange patch of woods known as the **Hinterlands** where stranger trees grow with doors leading to towns where the holidays never end. The most notable & famous one being Halloweentown, ruled by Pumpkin King Jack Skellington & Pumpkin Queen Sally. * West of Ahtohallen is the once-underwater, now-resurfaced city of **Atlantis**, a powerful empire established thousands of years ago by the Northhuldrens’ primordial cousins that barely survived a terrible cataclysm long ago before it was rediscovered. It’s ruled by Queen Kida & King Milo & magically protected by the Heart of Atlantis. * **Deep Space**, or Tomorrowland as it’s also called, is a realm beyond the heavens above Auradon that can only be reached by “The Map in the hands of a gifted one”.
**Publisher's Notes:**
* The events sparking the Twisted Wars are a reference to the "Twisted Tales" series. I had a headcanon that the Twisted Tales was Chernabog trying to use his godly powers to change fate in order to have villains win & heroes lose. Also, him having a brother who's the White God of All Good is taken from Slavic Mythology, Belobog isn't an actual Disney Character. * Umbransula is my rewrite of the Isle of the Lost, I saw someone bring up a good point once how it'd be kinda tedious to collect every villain & place them within a closed-off island so I thought instead the Disney Heroes & Disney Villains had this great war against each other until the sealing of Chernabog, the Disney Villains' ultimate master. * Deep Space/Tomorrowland is my name for the "Treasure Planet" & "Lilo & Stitch"-inspired world. **No**, this does not mean I'll be writing any sons/daughters/children of any Lilo & Stitch characters, but I *do* have plans to write an escapee Leroy into the series somehow, someway.
Anyways, if anyone has any questions/criticisms about my rewrite feel free to share & I will definitely take them into consideration! 'Till then! ✌️
