This game already had an ammo issue that was never really spoken about, but with the abilities changes it's now more detrimental than ever.

If this is a game about shooting our guns then you should really let us shoot our guns Bungie.

Every activity, every dungeon encounter, every high end piece of content in the game being reduced to a primary ammo fest without the most strict ammo generating builds and team work is so fundamentally harmful to this game.

And it isn't just that the ammo generation hasn't kept up with the bullet sponge enemies, the reduction of ability uptimes, and the length of encounters. It's that ammo generation has been directly and intentionally nerfed or hamstrung so hard over time. Some examples:

-Scav mods no longer stack

-Swords aren't allowed to have extra reserves anymore

-Ammo finders for linears were changed to only give one shot

-Ammo scavs for certain weapon types no longer give any extra ammo at all

-Ammo finders don't work with ability kills, and require nearly 30 weapon kills for a single brick (good luck in high end content)

-Ammo finders bricks give significantly LESS ammo than normal bricks

-~~Additional finder mods only reduce the required kills by 2 or 3, a ludicrously small gain for a 3 energy mod slot.~~ Edit: This has been changed, they now no longer grant ammo faster but instead give you marginally more ammo per brick. It now takes 9 energy and all 3 of your mod slots running finders to get the SAME amount of ammo as a single standard ammo brick. Now that's criminal game design.

-Exotic primaries give almost no meaningful benefit to ammo generation

-Double special was destroyed (and the game-wide ammo problem was literally the reason why people ran double special and why it got so popular).

-If you do want any of the ammo mods you have to sacrifice your build for it (or whatever's left of your build after the changes).

Speaking of builds, the mods that allowed you to actually make a build around your guns and generate ammo with armour charge (previously called charges of light) were removed in Lightfall, so that's neat!

This is a game about collecting and using your guns, and it's so hard to do both (vault space not found but that's a different issue) in a meaningful way. The ammo economy is balanced for patrol level activities and the abilities changes have removed the final tool we had preventing it from being a widely acknowledged as a problem.

It takes so much damage and thus so much ammo for so many enemies in actual activities that you're often reduced to scrounging for scraps more so than actually playing the game.

It's why they put rally banners in absolutely everything now. But if you have any encounter that goes for more than one phase then good luck, you aren't getting another banner to solve your ammo problem and it's probably 90% primary from here on out!

Thank you for coming to my TED talk titled: "Guns! They shoot ammo! Someone should tell Bungie."

Edit: Oh yeah and literally this season they removed landing in activities with full Kinetic special ammo, something we've had for 3 years since Beyond Light launched in November 2020. Why? What benefit did that change bring to the game? I don't think these are questions Bungie asks themselves.
