What does "it's spitting" mean to you?

I'm guessing this depends on where you're from.

When it's raining so lightly that I can't even feel the raindrops but I can see the ripples if there's a body of water, I tend to describe that as it's spitting. But I'm not a native speaker, so is this correct?
