Is having multiple saves easier now?

Update: I started a new farm and am having no issue with only using bed saving for that and my old farm. Obviously make backups of files that are important to you but I think people are still spreading older information.

I remember that having multiple farms used to require kind of manipulating the save system by only using the journal to save so they didn't overwrite each other or something, is that different now? Can you have two farms and manage them both "normally" by bed saving in both of them? All of the threads I've found about this seem to be older and still talking about it being kind of a pain.
