Genie 3120 programming issue

I was installing a 3120b and had issues with the F@!$king keypad. I programmed it and it worked properly 1 time but after that any button would open the door and I needed the code to CLOSE the door! I messed with it and still nothing worked but when I got to the motor the long led was red and the wall button would not work. From what I understand it means the programming was incomplete but that doesn’t make sense. I am familiar with liftmaster and linears but not genie. Is it because I set the up limit first like I do on lm and linear? I ignored the instructions on programming it from midpoint thinking it didn’t matter. The only other thing I could think of is a logic board issue or something with the bbu. Please help!
