App shows 40mph speed limits on 20mph roads, Eastern MA

Literally all over the place in Eastern Massachusetts (greater Boston, even down on the cape). I'm on IOS. Seems like any time google maps doesn't know the speed limit for a road, the app displays 40mph as the speed limit. Usually it's small residential streets, doesn't seem to actually matter if there's a speed limit sign. I first noticed in the fall, no idea how long it's been happening for.

Anyone seeing this in other parts of the USA? I'm genuinely concerned that this will get a pedestrian killed, if it hasn't already.
