Isitbullshit: The “overseas corporations” overpaying in cash to buy up houses is in large part Z/RF using data gleaned from their websites’ searches to target specific areas, housing price points in demand, which inflates house values in the area so they can then resell at higher prices?
I’ve been hearing about “overseas corporations” buying up real estate in cash, but not the potential why or who specifically until yesterday. Isitbullshit that Z/T/RF real estate search websites use their collected data to target frequently searched zip codes and price points, buy up 20-30 houses in an area (overpaying in cash, beating out most families who need an appraisal and financing), which raises the comp prices in the area, so when they resell the houses they scooped up, they use their own inflated comp prices to overvalue their other purchases and resell even higher to desperate families, making steep profit and artificially inflating real estate value for their own gain, and this is legal? Meanwhile, out-pricing the average American, raising all housing costs, causing gentrification, and I suspect making staff shortages worse since the average person can no longer afford to live in these areas. Is this bullshit? How is this legal, if so?
