6 day experience with japanese students who came to my country!

Speaking has always been one of the harder things to practise, so my speaking level has always been terrible. Last week, I spent a week with japanese students who came over for a short field trip. In those days, I spoke more japanese than English, and I made noticeable improvements since the first day.

After about 2 days, we became more comfortable with each other and used tameguchi. I learnt many slangs such is 「っつんた」 and Kansai ben words and jokes as well. We had many fun conversations that ended with us all laughing. It was especially entertaining when they were teaching me words like 俺様 and 貴様 and 連中. But these twats be asking me to use it if I get arrested by the police.

They also did many "listening practices" for me, where they would speak at their normal speed about a topic, then they would ask me a few questions about their conversation. Needless to say I couldn't grasp anymore than the key details at that speed. But it built my listening confidence alot more, which is good as I'm taking n3 this December.

They were surprised by how much japanese I knew, and they complained that they weren't getting enough English practise with me around haha. I also met a few other japanese learners, but surprisingly most of my country's people who joined this exchange event knew basically 0 japanese.

In conclusion, if you ever get the opportunity to meet people from Japan, jump for the opportunity! I made many friends and they asked me to come to Japan, promising to show me around this time. I look forward to joining more events like this, and the tremendous impact it had on my speaking ability due to constant usage and immersion is amazing!
