Rossi R95 .357 feeding issues

I just picked up a Rossi R95 in .357. I have some metal snap caps that I tried to run through it, and it is being absolutely awful. I only have 6, and it may get through 1 or 2 each time, but I have to hand clear 2-3 wedged in the receiver at once every time I've tried to run them through. Is it the result of using snap caps, or the gun, or is it just the way I'm using it? Never shot a lever action so I have no idea.
