I just read Guillermo Del Toro's At the Mountains of Madness script and I have some thoughts

I can see why this film never got made, it just doesn’t work. Sorry, but this reads like a Tom Cruise vehicle mashed together with *Prometheus* (which I hate with a passion), *The Thing 2* (I refuse to compare it to Carpenter’s masterpiece), and *The Mummy* (2017). There’s barely anything Lovecraftian about it.

You’re telling me del Toro, supposedly a huge fan of *At the Mountains of Madness*, came up with ***this*** as his final script? I know he’s admitted it would need a rewrite, but honestly, if he tackled it today — say, with Netflix, like he did for Frankenstein and Pinocchio, instead of the outdated studio system from fifteen years ago — I’d hope he’d stay truer to Lovecraft’s vision instead of feeling the need to twist it into… whatever this was meant to be to get the studio to play ball.

And hearing that they turned it down because GDT insisted on an R rating just reinforces that this was probably a blessing in disguise.

To be honest, I don’t think *Mountains of Madness* even fits del Toro’s sensibilities. Something like *The Dunwich Horror* or *The Shadow over Innsmouth* feels much more up his alley. What do you guys think?
