A thousand years ago, Kaldareth died.
Or at least, *that is what much of the outside world believes.*
A cataclysm remembered simply as **The Grave** tore across the continent, bringing centuries of civilization to an abrupt end. Cities vanished, nations collapsed, and those fortunate enough to survive were scattered across a land that had become almost unrecognizable. Some sought refuge deep beneath the earth or behind mountains and fortified walls. Others disappeared entirely, *leaving little more than ruins behind.*
For centuries afterward, Kaldareth was a place sensible people avoided.
***But Kaldareth did not die.***
Roughly three hundred years ago, people began to emerge from the places that had sheltered them. Old roads were walked again, settlements took root among the remnants of the old world, and communities that had spent generations believing themselves alone gradually found one another.
Today, ***Kaldareth is surprisingly alive ... !***
Though perhaps *alive and well* would be generous.
The Grave left scars that a few centuries of rebuilding haven't erased. The wilderness remains dangerous, and travel beyond settled lands is rarely taken lightly. Most troubling of all, ***the dead still rise after nightfall*** *- a grim peculiarity of Kaldareth that the rest of the known world has largely been spared...*
Walls are maintained for a reason. Gates close at night for a reason... And spears are gripped tightly because... The average man does *not* have access to magic.
... But you do *(if you want).*
Still, life goes on.
People work, squabble, celebrate, adventure, practice their faiths, and worry about tomorrow. They make lives for themselves in a continent that, by all accounts, shouldn't have much life left in it at all. And they're hardy because of it.
... And occasionally, one of them makes a catastrophically poor decision that becomes everyone else's problem...

Kaldareth has no kingdoms, and certainly no nobility of its own. This is NOT a server where you make factions, kingdoms, or towns to compete against each other. We care about **character-driven storytelling**, interpersonal relationships, and roleplay that interacts with other world events!
Your choices can earn friendships, grudges, reputations, divine attention, criminal charges, political consequences, or entirely unexpected storylines.
You don't need to become the ruler of Kaldareth to change it! *But it may help if you know a bit of magic or how to wield a sword :\]*

* **18+ ONLY -** ID verification required. This a roleplay server for ADULTS who LOVE roleplay. We also use bad language, have some occasional violence, and other mature themes! Still we maintain a strong CONSENT policy, meaning warnings are expected to be given out to others so that players may be warned about any potentially triggering content! *(Though we generally stray away from gratuitous descriptions / scenes to begin with).* * **VOICE-ONLY ROLEPLAY - you must have a clear, working microphone.** We are not a text-RP server. * **SERIOUS ROLEPLAY.** OOC can be chaotic and relaxed; IC is treated seriously. With that being said, DO NOT JOIN because you are looking for a survival modded minecraft experience. This IS a ROLEPLAY-first server. The requirement for being here is that you MUST roleplay! * **UNIQUE DND ELEMENT.** Our server uses a character sheet mod that allows players to make characters that are *actually* good at the things they say they are! Make rolls on various skill checks and saves, and get the opportunity to fight in *DND-styled* fights with our own unique Combat System! * **UNIQUE CRAFTABLE ITEMS!** Our server uses a custom learning system that allows your character to learn how to craft healing items, combat items, and other such items which are useful for RP and RP Combat! * **NO MAIN CHARACTERS OR MAIN (player) VILLAINS.** Everyone gets room to tell their story. The world doesn't revolve around any one player. Don't join because you want to be the world's "next big bad." See where you fit into the story! * **CONSEQUENCES MATTER.** What happens in RP can follow your character. Players are expected to manage themselves accordingly and to remember to keep IC interactions separate from OOC ones! Do bad things, win bad prizes. Take risks? Earn... risks! * **A FRIENDLY BUT SELECTIVE COMMUNITY.** We at Elarune are very friendly! But we are not pressed for numbers. Though we are a fairly small community of adults looking for more, we do also want QUALITY members who actually contribute to roleplay.
