After playing more matches of Mystery Heroes, Ive concluded that all the changes to the mode need to be reverted or make a comp Version with the old rules.
TLDR The old rules were way more engaging no perks boring 6v6 over bloats the healthpool if a team rolls too many tough enemies. Feels baby-fied. Maybe keep rules for unranked and add comp MH with the old rules for players with more understanding of the game. A bigger pain point of MH is that players end up just rotating between 2-4 heroes a whole game and players are able to exploit that. Some kind of temp ban where a hero cant be rolled again for a while to get more variety.
Perks need to come back it’s agonizing after using the amazing perk system for so long I have to play the heroes in Vanilla mode again. A-lot of the cast now feel very useless.
6v6 makes it even harder to make a difference. If my team is bad or just want stims to their eyes while they finish off the dredges of their bong water, its GG I cant make a difference to the game. At least with 5v5 one can pop off with a double or triple kill and turn the tide. It makes my “pains of the mode” as blizzard said even more and I’ll explain in a second.
The changes need to be reverted. Alternatively people have been asking for a return of comp MH. I think unranked could keep 6v6 it’s clearly targeted towards newer players and comp MH could be 5v5 with perks again for those that understand the game more thoroughly.
But I dont think the “pains and frustrations” were even addressed with these direct changes. Heres some of mine playing this mode for the past 10 years.
Health bars win. I think its safe to say that the typical behavior for everyone, including myself, is to go for the out of position weaker enemies. Which is the correct thing to do in other modes. It secures the fight and you win games this way. The problem with doing that in MH though is that tougher enemies are being ignored to do so, and when the weaker enemies die they sometimes get swapped to a tougher enemy and now you have more tougher enemies to deal with in the next fight. If you lose alot of games where the enemy team ends up with 2 mauga goats or comps like that, this is why. One has to break the typical mentality and group shoot the tougher enemies, or at least peel for them when they lost a fight and try to retreat.
I’ll say that its a mental game. this isnt a problem that cant be fixed with a patch, but 6v6; adding another health bar made this worse. Theres less opportunities to break a team because too many players can cover each other. Alot of players get too scared of losing their character in this mode and 6v6 makes this worse too.
The other problem I have CAN be fixed. It doesnt feel that random.
This is a typical situation let’s say someone is popping off. Theyre 30-0 and no can kill them because they’re really good with that character. Luck would have it, the other team finally gets a lucky shot, or more likely rushed them with the intent of making sure that player dies and succeeds. Hurray they have a new character. They could be good with them too whatever it doesn’t matter. What irritates me to no end and I know its happening is that when that 30-0 player dies for the first time and gets a new hero, they speedrun their next death. They will literally stand still and let themselves be deleted because they know WAY MORE OF OFTEN THAN SHOULD BE ALLOWED THEY GO BACK TO THE FIRST CHARACTER THEY HAD AGAIN AND START ANOTHER 30 KILL STREAK. there are over 50 characters why does it feel like Im only seeing 2 or three a game? This is fixable. Maybe have an underhood hero ban where you cant have heroes you recently played for a while.
