Q4W: How do you emotionally experience messiness/dirtiness? How does this differ in varying environments?

A while back, possibly years ago, I was talking about chore wars with u/texastentialism iirc. I recall her saying "I can't just ignore mess, it's like loud construction noise, I have to close a window or leave the house or something, it just has to be addressed somehow."

I have also seen many facebook posts from women posting pics of their clean home saying "omg after hours of work I can FINALLY relax!"

Do you feel this way about messiness? Does this vary based on your home, car or workspace?

While I am a male, I can actually relate to this somewhat. My room mate is a hoarder and pretty messy and I frequently throw out lots of his trash and put his dishes away because he will wash them but leave them out everywhere. It's annoying but I value him as a room mate for other reasons, and prefer this to being nagged by my previous male room mate who had a higher cleanliness standard than me and zero noise tolerance.

While I think the "men are slobs" trope has some fair truth to it, I also think "womens cars a a pigsty" has a lot of truth to it too, and that lots of men keep cleaner cars than houses. I've also noticed a subset of men with very clean garages if they do any kind of work on cars, woodwork etc in them, and lots of clean, organized workspaces, although I haven't noticed particulary messy womens workspaces.

Do you feel the same if your home is messy as you would if your car or workspace is messy?

I think a lot of women experience home mess as "loud construction noise," assume men/children experience the same but expect them to solve the problem for everyone all by themselves. In reality, they are the only ones experiencing this urgency to clean, and the rest of us feel obligated into a lot of time consuming routine chores that are themselves the "construction noise" to solve a problem we may technically acknowledge but don't experience in the same way.
