I'm hopeful this release will also address the battery drain issues that some users have been having. Now, if a website continues to make network requests when Relay is backgrounded, then the website will be unloaded. As a result of this you may occasionally come back to Relay and see a blank web page but pressing the browser back button will reload the website.

I'm continuing to look into video playback issues being reported. I've made some changes in this release so let me know if it's any better. YouTube playback issues can usually be resolved by re-installing the YouTube app from the play store since Relay uses a video component embedded in the YouTube app to play those videos.

Try it out and let me know what you think.

Cheers

Dave

##FAQ for version 9

####**How does the subreddit search bar work and what does it autocomplete?**

When you start typing in the subreddit search bar the first result returned is exactly what you type. After that, it lists all your subreddits/multireddits/bookmarks etc., starting with the letters you entered. While all that is happening, it has asked reddit for additional subreddits that begin with those letters. If reddit has returned any then these are listed next, sorted by number of subscribers. This should be handy for getting quickly to your subscribed subreddits or for finding popular new ones.

If none of the subreddits in the results are what you are looking for then you can press the enter/search key on your keyboard. This will perform a subreddit search for your search term in the subreddit descriptions. For instance if you entered "jokes" into the search bar then it wouldn't return /r/dadjokes in the autocomplete results since the subreddit name doesn't begin with "jokes". However, by hitting the enter/search key the /r/dadjokes subreddit is returned since it contains the search term "jokes" in it's subreddit description.

It works similarly to the Play Store search bar.

####**Why does the subreddit browser only come up half way when i click the subreddit button (beside refresh) but then expands to full screen when i click the subreddit name in the top bar?**

If you click the subreddit button at the bottom of the screen then your finger is already down low so by coming only halfway up it is easier to press the subreddit search bar if you want to find your subreddits by typing. If not then you can just scroll up to browse your subreddits normally. This is great for single handed use on large phones.

Similarly if you click the subreddit name at the top of the screen then your finger is already at the top so it expands to fullscreen.

You can change the behaviour to 'always open fully' by pressing the overflow button (3 dots) in the new subreddit search bar and selecting 'settings'. From there select "always open fully".

You can also long press the subreddits button at the top or bottom of the screen to start typing in a subreddit immediately on opening.

####**What does bookmarking a subreddit do?**

Bookmarking a subreddit just adds the subreddit to a bookmark category locally on your device. It doesn't do any subscribing. This is useful for subreddits you don't want to see on your frontpage but want quick access to. They will also appear instantly in results when typing in the subreddit search bar as no network request is needed to retrieve it.

####**How do i change the subreddit Relay starts up to?**

Press the overflow button (3 dots) in the new subreddit search bar and select "Choose default subreddit".

####Where is "random" subreddit and "randNsfw"?

Press the overflow button (3 dots) in the new subreddit search bar and you'll find them there.

####**Where is the sidebar button gone?**

The sidebar can be accessed from overflow button (3 dots) of any subreddit in the subreddit browser and through the oveflow button in the top bar of a subreddit's posts list.

####**How do i re-order my subreddits?**

In this release, you can only re-order subreddits you have marked as a 'favourite'. Do this by clicking on the star icon next to each one. They then appear under the 'Favourites' heading - at the top of your list under multireddits - and can be re-ordered from there. Long press and then drag any of your favourites to re-order them.

####**But i want my favourites at the top, above my multireddits.**

Sure, press the overflow button (3 dots) in the new subreddit search bar and select settings. In here you'll find a setting to have favourites appear above multireddits.

####**How do i remove some of the default multireddits like 'Popular' and 'All'?**

Press the overflow button (3 dots) in the new subreddit search bar and select 'settings'. In here you'll have options to disable any or all of the default multireddits. These options are account-specific so you'll need to modify them for each account.

####**But i don't want to see multireddits at all.**

Ok, you have two options here; you can collapse the whole multireddit category by clicking on the header text. The collapsed state is then saved. Alternatively, you can remove all of the default multireddits as well as your own, and the multireddit category will no longer be visible at all.

####**What even is a multireddit?!**

A multireddit is a collection of subreddits that are generally related to each other in some way. For example, you could create a multireddit that contains each of the following subreddits: /r/jokes, /r/dadjokes and /r/darkjokes, and you could name it "Jokes". Going to your "Jokes" multireddit would display posts only from these subreddits. Relay now lets you create your own multireddits as well as add multireddits that others have already made, and that may be of interest to you. Multireddits are saved to your reddit account and so will be visible not only in Relay but when browsing the desktop site as well. Here's my version of the multireddit mentioned above: https://www.reddit.com/user/DBrady/m/jokes/. If you click on it and you like it then press the plus icon in the top bar to save a copy to your account.

To start creating your own multireddit press the overflow button (3 dots) in the new subreddit search bar and choose "New Multireddit". From there you can choose any of your subreddits to add to the multireddit and give it a name.

####**I can't add anything but my subscribed subreddits to a multireddit.**

Press the overflow button(3 dots) on any subreddit that you find through searching and then choose "add to multi". If you have no existing multireddits then it will take you to the new multireddit screen. You can also choose to create a new multreddit at the bottom of your list of multireddits.

####**I used to have my own collection of subreddits separated by '+' symbol in between them; where are they now?**

Unfortunately these were not ported over to version 9 - sorry about that! However, if you have them saved elsewhere then you can paste the text into the subreddit search bar and choose the first result. For example, paste in "earthporn+cityporn+natureporn" then once you click the first result you'll be taken to the post listing for it. From here, press the overflow button (3 dots) in the top bar and choose ' add to multi'. These individual subreddits are now added to a new multireddit (which is then synced to your account). Alternatively, if you choose an existing multireddit, then they will all be added to that.

You can also click on links such as: https://www.reddit.com/r/earthporn+cityporn+natureporn and do the same thing from there.
