New player asks: best way to get more colonists?

Hi there!

I recently bought the game and I'm having a lot of fun! However, I've been wondering what the best ways to expand my little space family is! So far I've got people through capturing them after fights, but recently enemies seem to just die when I engage. Is there any way I can make my colonists shoot to wound instead of shoot to kill?

Also, I was wondering if there are any mods I can add to the game which add human reproduction? I was honestly a bit surprised that's not a thing.
