Balance in this game is horrendous

Coming back after several months and it seems like they’ve really improved a lot of general things about 2, but the balance and overall powercreep is just bad.

Aspects are a big problem here, there’s currently a ton of very bad Aspect designs littering the game. But base kit design in general is just really bad too.

Smite never had perfect balance, but the OG devs had an understanding of the floor to ceiling power level gap and what that meant for the meta. It kept things tight even when there were favorable picks.

The current devs seem to have no understanding of this dynamic at all.

I hate to make this assumption, but based on where things are at right now and how 2 has gone so far, it really feels like the most likely explanation is that the devs have just intentionally decided to abandon balance in favor of this kind of circus design. I hope that’s not the case.

In the hopes that one opinion from someone who’s played this game at a high level for over a decade actually holds any worth anymore, I’d like to remind the devs that the most fun thing you can design is balance.

It’s been fun to pop back in for a bit and see the progress, but the balance just isn’t there and not even close, and it makes the game incredibly stale and repetitive at a higher level.

Maybe put other stuff on hold to focus in balance, maybe hire some new talent who understands a bit more about depth of design and why things like powercreep are so critical in games like this. Maybe just stop to think twice about what you’re adding into the game, and recognize that not every “funny cool new kit idea” is actually going to be a good idea or healthy for the game.
