Minimalist and Convenient Ship Design (no ladders or stairs)
I'm not a fan of clutter or awkward ship layout, so I ended up trying a ton of different designs before I found something that I liked. Now it's hard to use anything else because it's just so convenient.
I thought that I'd share.
Make a save, give this layout a try and see if you like it. It isn't expensive and you can make it very early on in your playthrough. I use the basic layout for the entire game.
* Main level: Viking cockpit (Crew 4), then any 2x1 Hab (try the Taiyo Living Quarters Empty **Bottom B**) * Landing Bay: Hope 4 (forward facing) almost under the cockpit. * Docker: ~~Slim~~ FAT docker on top, right behind the cockpit. (You'll see why when you get inside.)
That's it. That's the build. It's about the sections that you interact with. You can add anything else you like after that. It could be Class A or Class C.
Note: To avoid ladders or stairs, this build is limited in how high you can build it. You can still build very powerful ships within that limitation.
Edit: I just learned that by using a fat docker above and low lander below that you can have one layer for your habs (no ladders or stairs) and have three layers for all of your other things (I had been working with two layers because I used the slim docker). This makes this minimalist build a little more convenient.
