Did I Come To The Switch Modding Scene A Bit Too Late?

I wanted to play some games with some cheat codes, kinda like the old Game Genie in the NES days. Also I've done JTAG on an Xbox 360 which still runs to this day, so I'm no stranger to modding a console. But man the number of issues I've run into makes me scratch my head in frustration as I don't know how to go forward.

So I looked at the switch\_hacks\_guide and also followed a Youtube video by Teedle on how to mod the Switch. Mainly followed the video and was able to get Hekate working and the system settings show the correct firmware info to confirm this. But I'm having the following issues:

1. When I try to run Themezer NX I get a "Could not connect to the themezer server. Press A to exit" with an error code 35. I saw the issues with the developer of DBi not wanting to do English language anymore and keep it as Russian only. So: 3. I thought I would try Tinfoil. I put the Tinfoil installer on the SD card of the switch and tried launching it through the Images (Homebrew) but it just hangs. No error, no nothing. Did I come at a bad time when there are issues with these softwares? Is it something I did wrong like botch the installation somehow? Should I or even can I wipe the SD card and start over, maybe using HATS this time?

BTW I was lucky enough to purchase a Switch with the golden 1.0.0 firmware on it. So I'm using RCMJig to get this to work. I wonder if this is why I'm having issues? Like the OFW 1.0.0 is too old to support some of these homebrew softwares? Please help.
