Tired of the Hysterics
Trump won. For a little under half the country that is a disappointment, but for a little under half the country that is a victory. Notice that “under half” for both. Yeah, there are more than two sides and not even everyone who could even voted.
Anyway, I teach HS at a small urban school and I am noticing that the teens are handling this election so much better than the adults. As I see the posts online, not just Reddit, I am actually getting disgusted with some overly political teachers. I have seen some seriously inappropriate comments and I genuinely am worried about people in this field. I would like to remind many people that while you may not like Trump, he did win, if you don’t like his policies, many are executive actions and may be as easy to dismiss in four years as what he is doing now to executive actions prior.
Please, if you are feeling overwhelmed, reach out to people in the real world, while yelling into the internet void may feel good, people can see what you write and some of you do have people who know you IRL who may see what you post and worry. Emotions are high and it is clear many people put themselves into some state of denial instead of processing the election in November. I want to remind people to reach out for help. If you think a therapist could help, do it. If being around friends and/family could help, do it. If going for a hike could help, maybe wait until after the polar vortex. Your feelings are valid, but some of the comments I am seeing online and most definitely some of the behaviors I am seeing IRL are not.
Presidents come and go. Political parties gain and lose power. You will weather this just like the majority of us did last time.
