Mai Tai Rum Blends

So I’ve made quite a few Mai Tai’s in my day… With quite a few rums.

Some of my favorites are: 2 full ounces of Appleton 12 2 full ounces of Appleton signature 2 full ounces of Denizen Merchant’s reserve Some combination of Appleton Signature, a cane juice rum, and maybe some Smith & Cross

My favorite is the Appleton 12 but I do miss the funky Jamaican and Rhum Agricole notes. Something about the dark aged notes on the 12 just counters, or better said, compliments the other ingredients of the Mai Tai perfectly.

With that said, I’ve seen a lot of rum blends that I would never consider if not for reading these forums. The one rum I see often used here in a Mai Tai that I’d never considered before is a Demerara.

So my question is, what’s an oddball rum blend or even full 2 ounce pour, that is a bit outside of the box that I might not consider but should try?
