ULPT You can pass an emissions test with a bad catalytic converter
Some states have yearly registration for cars and trucks. In order to register your vehicle you have to pass an emissions test. On older vehicles catalytic converters will eventually fail and I know I lost a few cars and got a few tickets back in the day because I couldn't get it inspected and didn't have enough money for a new cc. If this happens to you get an O2 sensor extension. It is a small extension that goes between your sensor and the cc. This prevents the sensor from sitting directly in the air flow. A quick search will give you options. Make sure you get one that has a grill on one end, you'll know when you see it, because the open ended ones don't regulate the air flow and will still set off a check engine light. You will also need a ratchet and O2 socket, but it shouldn't take mare than 10 min. You'll still have to get your catalytic converter replaced eventually, but this will get you legal on the road.
