Beast's Strength

So, can someone explain to me the limit of Beast's str? I was rewatching '97 and dude trips a sentinel and rips into it's chest like it's nothing. Am I to assume his strength is equal to someone like Colossus (I get he's not as durable)? Or is it the type of issue that depends on the writer?
