Energy required to pump uphill?

Hey guys, my friends live in rural Australia and they are wanting to install a bore pump. I was wondering how to work out the pressure the pump needs to have.

Obviously we'd need to consider the height we're pumping, horizontal length we're pumping, coefficient of friction on the piping, surface area of the piping etc. So yeah I really like doing calculations like this so even though friction I'd assume to be negligible I'm still interested in just how big of a factor it plays.
