I don't drink IPAs, I hate them, but I would still like to be able to describe them to customers who like them

What terms do you typically use to describe them, and what are some beers that exemplify these terms?

If it helps, I've lived in Tampa and Nashville and am somewhat familiar with the IPAs of those areas.
