CMV: The US Government should calculate and publicize an estimate of how much has already been given in reparations.

I did a quick search and I’m pretty sure I’m the first person who’s posted this on here.

I’m not sure where this slots on the political axis (personally I’m a Democrat) but I think it might be “outside the Overton window” because I’ve never really seen this suggested by a major news organization or politician. Basically I think that the U.S. government should have a small team in the Department of the Treasury calculate how much has already been given in reparations through things like Affirmative Action, allowance of DEI by federal courts, Voting Rights Act Section 2, as well as older stuff like Reconstruction.

I think this would be good for establishing that the American people have been willing to give reparations in forms other than a direct transfer of cash, and would also help clarify where we’re at on that. I think it would also open a national dialogue on reparations that isn’t just like an estimate by the BET or a one-off statement by one of the furthest-left politicians, which is good because it’s a bit of a Sword of Damocles and normalizing American race relations would be wonderful for everyone.

Edit: Had to stop responding for a minute because there was a fire in my dorm. Also I guess from the comments this is definitely considered a Republican take
