Misleading Translation [German]

There are similar concepts to heraus and hinaus in my native language when it comes to directional adverbs, so I have no trouble understanding them in German.

However, I always have trouble matching them with their English equivalents on Duolingo because some of the translations seem rather odd to me.

As far as I know, the system of encoding both path and deictic direction seems to have largely disappeared from modern English. If you asked me to translate heraus and hinaus, I would be more inclined to translate them as “come out” and “go out” than simply as “out” and “outside.” To me, “outside” is much closer in meaning to draußen than to hinaus.
