Tourtech tt22m kit + Alesis DM10 module... great on paper?
So as per the title i thought I was being clever by getting a fairly sturdy, full mesh kit dirt cheap for £170 and combining it with the best budget module i could easily get locally - ie. An Alesis DM10 original for just £80. I already had a pearl double kick pedal and various converted cymbals and stands but didn't really plan on using them.
For background I'm particularly a great drummer but i just really enjoy it, and the whole family is pretty obsessed with playing clone hero.
I'd gotten the tourtech kit first and was fully prepared for it to sound a bit crap from reviews. And it's pretty true - great rack, great triggering, but the features, interface and actual sounds in the module are a bit rubbish.
So after obsessing for several days i choose the DM10 as a replacement module (call me shallow but after sound quality i really wanted analogue sliders and separate input jacks). Updated the firmware, scanned through the manual and excitedly sorted out the new wiring...
...But the damn thing barely registers any triggers on the Tourtech. After several hours maxing out all the sensitivity and thresholds i still have to hit the snare with full power just to get any sound at all. Some cymbals seem OK, i just generally get the impression the 2 brands aren't compatible... which is a shame since everything i researched seemed to suggest they would play nicely together.
Anyone tried mixing and matching with the DM10 and had a similar experience? Can't believe I'm actually considering going back to the Tourtech with its loom of doom and bog standard sounds.
