Top number of find in a day crazyness

I just don't get it. None of this sounds realistic 654 caches in a day is still about 27 every hour for 24h. Are people doing this as teams? To which I don't see the purpose as to me if you weren't there, you didn't find it or are people just pressing found on a bunch of cache randomly? I don't get what people would gain from it. Can somebody enlighten me?
