Looking for a pistol; can i handle a .45?

Hello, I'm looking to get my first pistol but I wanted opinions from people with more knowledge. I want something with more stopping power than a 9mm. My hang up is that I want a .45, but my dominant hand was injured while I was in the military so my grip strength is significantly worse and it's hyper sensitive. I'm worried I won't be able to handle a .45 effectively because of that. What do you guys think? would appreciate your opinions very much.
