Is there any kind of preferred integrations for switches, bulbs, etc
TLDR - What switches and bulb brands are best.
I'm just getting started and I'm trying to figure out which brand of bulbs ans switches to use. I'm mostly concerned about vendors API being reliable. I will not use anything cloud based that requires the internet be working. I'm OK with using Alexa for voice commands, but want a way to control the system should the internet be down.
I want devices that are stable and at least somewhat open API. I have a total of three devices. One Sengled bulb that looks to be Alexa only. I'm not getting any more of those. I have a couple of TPLink Kasa switches. These appear to only have a reverse engineered API through the python-kasa project. It works great, but I'm concerned about them pulling the rug at any time in the future. Is there a more open and low cost alternative? I'll pay more for a more open solution if I have to.
I'm guessing I probably want to look for Zigbee devices and not wifi ones, as the Zigbee ones are going to be local control.
Is there a FAQ somewhere for this question?
