Does anyone else think it’s unfortunate how little these movies are actually talked about?

The How to Train your Dragon movies are beloved, respected, treated as classics, and held up as one of the great animated trilogies. Some of Dreamworks’ best material.

But with that said, I hardly see anyone talking about them. They don’t get a ton of memes, they don’t have the largest presence in dedicated fandom spaces, even when the discussion is about DRAGONS it’s rare for the DRAGONS franchise to be mentioned. I get weird looks sometimes when I say it’s my favorite movie ever.

It just seems like despite how beloved it is, this series doesn’t have a very big cultural footprint. Certainly not as big as Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, or even the Madagascar movies. Unless you were born at just the right time to catch these movies as they were coming out you probably missed the franchise entirely. Which is a shame because as we here all know, these are some of the greatest animated films ever made. And that’s not even getting into the shows!

My hope is that between the remake (trepidation aside) and the upcoming theme park, this franchise I love so much can finally have a bit more of a cultural presence.
