Why haven’t we doubled down on wind energy?
One of the biggest lessons the war in Ukraine has taught us, is the importance of energy policy and energy security.
Climate change makes it clear that we need to accelerate the move away from carbon producing energy sources and wind energy seems like a no-brainer for Ireland. We’re such a windy country, like we literally have a wind called “the prevailing wind”.
I’d love to see Ireland become a leader in renewable energy, just imagine the amount of jobs it would create in the west of the country. If we really scaled things up, we could even sell our surplus energy to other European countries.
Is there a reason we aren’t we doubling down on this renewable energy source, which we have a natural abundance of?
I’d love to know what FG/FF/SF/Greens plans are in this area, a quick Google on energy policy brings up policies from 2018 for some parties, so I don’t think it’s top of the agenda for most parties.
