Do fans really think Jacob is wrong when he meets Tali?

A thing that has been bugging me for a good while is that there is a weirdly high (or at least loud) number of fans who think that Jacob is doing some incredible wrong during his welcoming of Tali aboard the Normandy.

For years, I always saw it as him clearly being respectful in the face (plate) of Tali's understandable hostility and guarded behavior, so it has given me some considerable whiplash to see folks here decry Jacob for some reason. Especially with the end of the scene, where he simply tells about her about EDI in a way that is oddly more casual than expected but not rude or snippy.

So now I'm simply asking you guys (particularly those who actually think that he is being rude) why this is.

(Note: I generally love Tali as a character and I have a fairly even-handed opinion on Jacob, so this isn't a biased post.)

(Note#2: (Days later) You folks are really really weird when it comes to Jacob. 😑. It seems like many of you just like to hate him and twist everything about him into a negative pretzel to justify that. Sure, he isn't a great character, but I find it really strange that too many of you refuse to engage with his writing here in good-faith in terms of seeing the more even-handed and neutral interpretations of the scene. He's either being an asshole or he's clapping back and so he is a jackass for doing either. It even gets up to the point that he is seen as being hostile or patronizing or snide or whatever throughout and it is weirdly rare to find a comment that is just a normal and fair reading.

Maybe it's just me who absorbed these games, and thus this scene, in a vacuum for years that seeing the exchange of miniature essays and some rather strange logic about such a simple scene here just kind of shocked me.
