eBay Authentication exploit
Yesterday I made a sale on eBay.ca that qualified for authentication, something I've done many times. When I went to print a shipping label, I noticed that the label was the customer's home address, usually it would be to the authenticator. I contacted customer service, and they put me in touch with a "specialist" who told me that the customer had made the purchase through eBay.fr (the France website). Because of this it was considered an international shipment it no longer qualifies for authentication, despite the buyer still being in Canada(the French speaking part, but it's still the same fucking country), and shipping to a Canadian address. I was honestly a little blindsided by this because it makes zero sense. The specialist insisted this was working as intended, and there was nothing they could do. I tried to express my concern at losing my the protection I'm offered by authentication, she told me to go ahead and ship it directly to the buyer. I however feel like the buyer(a new account, possibly a burner account)may have done this intentionally, they've found a way to exploit eBay's authentication process. Even if it wasn't intentional, it's an absolutely unacceptable to just expect me to give up what little protection I have as a seller because a buyer used a different .com. I basically closed my store, and won't be selling on eBay going forward because of this issue. I know this post might be better posted in r/eBay but I know lots of Canadian sellers here use eBay so I feel like this is information Canadian sellers should be aware of, and I'm curious if anyone else has experience with this or advice to offer.
