Medical shows are painful to watch now
I e heard good things about the pit, haven't seen it yet, but my god it's so hard to watch medical shows now after being a nurse for awhile. I feel like overall things are improving to a more realistic level, but the typical problems are still there that obviously aren't problems to lay people but still create images in peoples head they can't distinguish from reality.
The worst of all being nurses as assistants / props to Drs who inexplicably run every aspect of the patients care and are the only one catching anything or doing any work.
I'm trying to watch After school doctor, a Japanese drama about a young pediatrician covering for a school nurse during her maternity leave (I wanted medical specific immersion for my Japanese language learning) but holy shit I don't know if I'll make it. The kids' amazing acting is the only thing keeping me going lol.
-every day a concerning amount of kids are fainting from very rare causes at this school -hes walking a kid around a hospital, taking him into rooms in the PICU, telling him their entire medical history as a warning. Idk if they have HIPAA in Japan but c'mon -the dr is diagnosing things very confidently with nothing but a stethoscope and fairly nonspecific symptoms without a shred of doubt. - fastest recovery of a traumatic pneumothorax requiring needle decompression ever -they spent so much time showcasing real CPR training which I liked only to have a girl spend like 5 minutes making dramatic phone calls and flashbacks before starting CPR (I guess she's just a kid but plss) once they started it was a fairly good demonstration, almost to the point of feeling like a Japanese CPR training video. Only to ruin it by cutting to them in the hospital later that day literally saying "he's all good now!" No he's fucking not lmao
