PSA: Rent payments late fees are legally abolished through August 20th. Some NYC landlords illegally demand them.

If you were late paying your rent at any point since March 20th, [Cuomo's Executive Order No. 202.28](https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/no-20228-continuing-temporary-suspension-and-modification-laws-relating-disaster-emergency) prohibits your landlord from demanding any late fees you would otherwise owe:

> Subdivision 2 of section 238-a of the Real Property Law to provide that no landlord, lessor, sub-lessor or grantor shall demand or be entitled to any payment, fee or charge for late payment of rent occurring during the time period from March 20, 2020, through August 20, 2020;

It seems some NYC landlords are illegally demanding late fees in violation of this Executive Order. Be aware of your rights and refuse outright to pay.
