Sirus Map Invasion Mechanic

The problem with this, as far as I can tell, is that it's all stick and no carrot.

It really feels like the smartest thing I can do when it appears is just to portal out and open the next map. Why take the risk of the Sirus rares teeing off on you for no reward? Or, what am I missing?
