Can you kind of shift?

I know this is a dumb question, apologies in advance, but would appreciate any help. Idk why I’m having trouble fully grasping the definition/feeling of shifting. With lucid dreaming when you start you don’t have total control & you have to practice. I know they’re not the same thing, but it’s the closest example I know. Is shifting like this too? I tried the rope method to get to my dr. Instead I ended up in Supernatural. I haven’t scripted a Supernatural dr, but I have been rewatching the show again. I woke up feeling weird af cuz I had just been sitting in a diner about to eat chocolate cake (if you know the show, it should’ve been pie lol) with Dean Winchester & then was suddenly back in my room. It felt like real life, like I could feel everything, however, there are parts I don’t remember. I was at places from the show, but there were no other characters, which was also weird. I don’t remember how I got from one place to another. From what I’ve read about shifting it’s like real life. So if I can’t remember everything was it just a lucid dream? Or does it take practice to be able to shift where you want & be able to remember everything?
