Something that used to always freak me out (more text under pic but TL/DR is the disappearing corpses, which were most likely intended more for efficiency than horror). Any other less-discussed elements of the games that creeped you out?

When I tried playing this game as a kid 30 years ago, it scared the shite out of me for the obvious reasons (monsters, environment, music etc.), but there are some other elements that really added to the feeling of dread - like where are the dead zombies that were on the floor before I left this room 10 seconds ago?? 😨😨😨

I'm assuming the bodies disappearing was simply to help with the technical limitations of consoles at the time, but when I was new to the game I had no idea what to expect. I assumed they'd reanimated and were now hiding somewhere waiting to ambush me. After about 20 minutes I think I'd had enough and probably played Ridge Racer instead.

Several retrospectives on YouTube talk about the old school fixed-camera angles and pre-rendered backgrounds, which were majorly influenced by the power of the mid-90s tech, and how they actually added to the feeling of unease, which might not have even been intentional. But I've never seen anyone talk about the disappearing bodies.

I love things like these. Are there any other less-conspicuous characteristics/behaviours of the games that freak(ed) you out?
