2009 Bullet 500 EFI

Hello RE community, I’ve lurked here for awhile but recently my brother purchased a 2009 Bullet 500. He purchased it for $2700 USD. We’re in Texas. Recently he was riding and shifting got a bit rough and he noticed fluid leaking from somewhere. Even today with both of us inspecting the bike we can’t find an oil leak of any kind. We DID find that the bolt that anchors both the center stand and the left (shifter side) foot peg in place was really loose. It appears that this bolt feeds into a threaded nut that is part of the frame. This seems odd to me. Making things a bit more strange when we pulled the bolt out and inspected it to see if it was cross threaded or stripped it appears fine but it won’t tighten. I’m wondering if anyone has seen this before. Would it be dumb to put a lock washer and a safety nut on this bolt?

We’re both a bit concerned about gearbox lubrication. We watched a dozen videos on YouTube today. We saw a ton of industrious folks in India mixing grease with heavy weight motor oil and lots of discussion about whether this was correct or not, but every single video we were able to find stopped short of anyone putting lube or fluid into the gearbox. I didn’t see a grease relief valve anywhere but there must be a way to inspect and lubricate the gearbox. I’m wondering if one of you more experienced folks could point us in the right direction. It’s still winter in much of the US but it’s sunny and in the 80’s here in central Texas and I would love to get out riding with my brother on his new (to him) bike.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
